France

Moulin Foulon is an old watermill, orginially used to make cloth for the farming village, it nestles alongside a beautiful river and sits below neighbouring stone houses in a meadow full of diverse nature, walnut trees and cow parsley.

We bought the mill in 2012 after years of renting, determined to find some land where we could act as custodians in looking after nature and restore the buildings. We discovered an incredibly friendly community of people who have tolerated our efforts to learn French, understand the land, local traditions and the French customs and traditions.

The mill is now instrumental in providing not just a base to help us have some respite from town living and modern life and work on projects and ideologies that we believe in.  The mill has become over many years an invaluable base and workplace.  Many a pot and glass bottle has been washed in the river before returning it to the UK and many hours of searching the French countryside for stock has ended with us around the fire or sharing an apero with our French neighbours.

It is because of our fondness for France, our neighbours, the land and our friends there that Classics continues to flourish.  The language learning, the support from our friends to help us find unusual places for stock and the overwhelming kindness of the people we’ve met helps our business thrive and continues to help you have access to those Classic beautiful French items that connect you to your own special memories and stories.

Here is a glimpse in to that magical world where we have bucket showers outdoors, light enormous fires, watch nature and look for unusual and interesting opportunities and items to bring home.  If you’re keen to see or read more of our adventures in France you can subscribe for free to my Substack from the Menu or follow us on Instagram via the link in the Menu.
